Written evidence is important when studying history because it provides a first hand source into the lives and ways of the people of the time. It gives us insight into the materials they had and the techniques they used. It lets us know how advanced they were and reminds us that history isn't something one can make up, but it is something that has happened and that people before us have experienced.
